TEAM ELIGIBILITY AND EXPECTATIONS
Being an LHS Student Athlete means being a STUDENT first!

Each Cheerleader and Dancer are required to maintain at least a 2.0 GPA to be able to participate in all events. Student will be able to practice with the team. (involvement in practice is coaches discretion)

Eligibility will be declared at the beginning of each year and following each grading period. Coaches will be notified by the school each grading period.

In the event that a Cheerleader or Dancer becomes Ineligible:

Parents will be notified by Coaches.

Ineligible students may practice with the team but may not wear the uniform or warm-ups, cheer at a game, or get an early out to travel with the team.

When grades are remedied and Coaches are notified by the school, participation may resume.

All cheer and dance team events are mandatory. This includes but is not limited to events such as games, practices, performances, team bonding events, team meetings, etc.

All Cheerleaders and Dancers are expected to attend all practices on time, dressed, and ready to go.

Cheerleaders and Dancers will not be allowed to leave practice early without the prior knowledge and permission of the Coaching Staff.

Cheerleaders and Dancers must wear appropriate practice clothing and shoes to every practice. Cheerleaders will NOT be allowed to practice without proper attire and shoes. Hair must be tied back, no gum, and no jewelry (no necklaces, hoops, bracelets, dangling earrings will be allowed - studs are okay).

Cheerleaders and Dancers MUST be present at the last practice prior to a game or performance in order to participate. If the practice before is missed, the Coaching Staff MAY allow the Cheerleader to

Each Cheerleader and Dancer is responsible for securing transportation to and from all games. LHS has a “Meet you there” policy.

All cheers and chants shall be of a positive and sportsmanlike manner. Cheerleaders and dancers will make every attempt to ignore or dissuade negative responses at games and not become involved in such actions themselves.
Attendance and Tardiness

All Cheerleading and Dance activities, including games, practices, rallies, and camps are mandatory.

Cheerleaders and Dancers must be on time to all practices, games, and events. Tardiness will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary action, (please see Accountability program).

All communication regarding tardiness MUST be communicated to BOTH Coaches in writing (Band chat is acceptable) by the Cheerleader or Dancer NOT the Parent. This is to encourage personal responsibility and accountability. Follow up contact and/or questions from Parents is acceptable.

All absence days for practices, games, camp, rallies, fundraisers, team bonding, etc. must be submitted to the absence form for approval by both Coaches. You will receive an email if the absence is approved or not.

If absence is not submitted to absence form, and the athlete misses a scheduled day. They will be marked as Unexcused Absence/No-show (check Accountability program for consequence)

In the case of an emergency Parent notification will of course be acceptable. Please contact the Coaching Staff at least 2 hours before the scheduled practice, game, or event. Emergencies are illness or injury, hospitalization, or death in the family. Vacations, medical/dental visits, work, other sports, etc. are NOT emergencies.

Every effort should be made to schedule family vacations and appointments around the Cheerleading or Dancers schedule. Should a Cheerleader or Dancer know in advance of an absence for one of these reasons, they must give the Coaching Staff at least 2 weeks’ notice.

For all absences the athlete MUST submit a request to the absence form below,
NOT all request will be approved, you will receive an email stating if your request was approved or not.

Accountability Program

The Cheerleading and Dance program will follow all LHS policies regarding school ordered discipline. If an athlete is suspended from school, they will NOT be allowed to participate in ANY activities until the suspension is lifted.

The Cheerleading and Dance program will adhere to the LHS Athletic Code regarding the use of tobacco, alcohol, or illegal drugs.

Athletes will establish regular and prompt attendance at all practices, games, and events except in the case of illness or when the student is excused by the Coaching Staff.
Program Breakdown:
Late to practice/fundraiser = 5 points
Not in Practice Gear = 5 Points
Miss practice = 10 Points
Miss fundraiser = 15 points
Late to game = 10 points
Miss game = 25 points
Miss Camp = 50 Points

25 points = sit out first quarter
50 points = sit out first half of game
75 points = sit out of 3 quarter of game
100 points = sit out of entire game
150 points = off the team

In the event of a benching, suspension, or injury the Cheerleader or Dancer will still be required to attend all games, practices, and functions. A benched, suspended, or injured Cheerleader or Dancer is expected to sit with the Coaching Staff and support their teammates NOT sit with friends. ​

PERSONAL CONDUCT/BEHAVIOR

As part of the Leland HS Cheer Team you will be expected to use good judgment and proper behavior when at school, at games, and even on your own time. You will ALWAYS be asked to work hard and have a great attitude when it comes to all aspects of cheer and dance in everyday life. Having a bad attitude or inability to work with others WILL jeopardize your place on the team.
